morning, on to Accolay. After an early lunch, depart for the Chateau de Guedelon.
This is a fascinating 25-year project to build a chateau from scratch, using only
medieval building methods and materials. You will see stone masons, ropemakers,
carpenters, blacksmiths, and other workers all hard at work, dressed in appropriate
costumes. From here you'll go just a short distance to the Bois de la Folie, an
adventure park in the trees, with various kinds of physical activities and games,
such as rock climbing and tight rope walking. Of course, those who want to take
it easy can just stay on the ground and take photos. Back to the barge in the
early evening for dinner.
Day
4 - Tuesday: Accolay to Mailly-le-Château.
This morning's cruise is to Mailly le Chateau. After lunch, visit the Grottes
d'Arcy sur Cure, with stalagtites, stalagmites and amazing cave paintings. This
is a favorite with adults and children alike. Dinner on board the barge.
Day
5 - Wednesday: Mailly-le-Château to Lucy-sur-Yonne.
After cruising to Lucy-sur-Yonne, you'll pick up canoes for an afternoon on the
river. The canoeing is very safe and passes through some beautiful scenery. At
the halfway point, one of the crew members will meet you with drinks and refreshments.
Any passenger who prefers not to canoe can go to the halfway point to take photos
or just relax and read a book. At the end of the afternoon, you'll head back to
the barge for dinner.
Day
6 - Thursday: Lucy- sur-Yonne to Clamecy. This
morning you'll enjoy your final cruise to Clamecy. The last excursion of the week
is to the 12th century Château de Bazoches. This edifice has been beautifully
restored by the decendants of its most famous owner, the Maréchal de Vauban,
who was a military advisor to Louis XIV. Great history for the adults and a wonderful
chateau for the children to visit. Back to the barge to enjoy some time in Clamecy
before dinner.
